With +40 years in practice the author has been involved in landscape architecture, community planning and historic preservation. He has a passion for landscape architecture, community planning, and historic preservation with degrees in each from Auburn University.
The author strives to capture and explain history by drawing pencil sketches and designing. Through his books, including A Designer’s Sketchbook, Flowers, The Big Book Of Cool Stuff, and Recollections of a Southern Landscape Architect, he introduces his experience and advice as well as stories about landscape architecture and Southern living.
The author’s goal is to educate those who wish to become professional designers as well as schoolchildren utilizing elements of history, design, and actual design experience. Being trained in landscape architecture and having the burning satisfaction to help create graphic material for communications, the author seeks to contribute to developing educational material that enhances the practice between the aesthetics and the practical.

Where he gave detailed narratives of the projects that had been done and the use of historical sketches in the book made it just about perfect blend of information and history. Let’s, not doubt, conclude that this author has got the great command of the landscape preservation techniques.
Looking at The Big Book of Cool Stuff, I silently muttered to myself: ‘I simply couldn’t help it but to remember this.’ Oh how I loved Hot Wheels and G.I. Joe toys as a child of the 60’s and seeing them again really flashed me back in a bit. I think that any grandparent who wants to share with their grandchildren their passion to playing with toys that we used to play with in our childhood will find this book quite useful.
The material itself is solid, and one gets the feeling that the author’s training as a historical restorer and landscape architect played a role in shaping at least some of the narrative. Whether it is seen within his sketches, his view of design, or the manner in which he pays great detail to all of his projects, he provides a very good balance of art with history in all of his works. I will highly endorse this to anybody that would wish to be conscious in environmental conservation.
